History

Culpepper Realty was established in 1937 when John Cecil Culpepper, Sr. started his real estate business near Texas A&M University. One year later the City of College Station, Texas was incorporated. Cecil started his first residential subdivision that same year and was active developing housing throughout both Bryan and College Station. Cecil helped achieve the licensing of Texas Realtors and was appointed to the first Texas Real Estate Commission. He developed the first major residential subdivision, shopping center, apartment complex, and medical center, served as first president of the Bryan-College Station Realtors, and employed the first female real estate salesperson in Brazos County.

Culpepper Realty continued to grow as John Cecil Culpepper, Jr. admitted to the Texas Bar in 1963, joined his father in business, expanding its capabilities and focusing on commercial real estate development. Together they developed the first enclosed shopping mall in Brazos County. A member of the International Council of Shopping Centers since its inception, John served on its lease negotiation faculty. During the next three decades he developed more than three million square feet of retail space in Texas communities including Paris, Brenham, Navasota, Alice, Beaumont, Big Spring, Kingsville, Kerrville, Pasadena, Corsicana, Mt. Pleasant, and Bryan-College Station.
